City Centre North:

All stops on ale trails can, of course, be taken in any order. Below is just a suggestion with the thought that visitors could be looking to meet up and depart close to City Centre rail stations.

Open from 10 am to midnight, the Wellington is a great place to start or finish a day out. A specialist real ale pub this city centre pub has the feel of a community local at the heart of the second city. Offering 27 hand pulls over two floors, dispensing well kept ale and 3 traditional ciders. A huge range of whiskies is also available.

Our worthy pub of the year for 2022, the Bull is a welcoming back street local serving up to 5 handpulls and a hearty pub menu Mon to Sat. With a soft pleasant music backdrop, the pub has several interesting featues and rooms are available, like hotel California you might not want to leave.

The Regency period, Grade II listed Gunmakers Arms is the tap house of Two Towers Brewery, which is located at the rear, sharing a courtyard drinking area. Brewery tours available by arrangement. A range of Two Towers ales is available with occasional guest ales. Live music is sometimes on.

Recently re-opened (March 2022) Prince Of Wales is another fabulous addition to the Black Country Ales stable, with many handpulls and cobs available.

Winner of a CAMRA design award, Thornbridge Brewery's Colmore offers 8 regular handpulls a large selection of Gins as well as an excellent Pizza menu.

Craddocks Brewery's Good Intent gets its name from the desire to donate profits to charities and good causes. There are several Craddocks handpulls and guests and some grand seating up and downstairs. Close to Snow Hill station it can be a good place to meet.

With an upper-level island bar, Cameron's Head of Steam serves up to 10 handpulls and food at most times. There are seating options for groups of various sizes, with screens often displayed the pub can get busy for sports events.

Nicholsons Old Contemptibles gets its name from the description of the British Expeditionary Force in France during the first world war and murals/paintings honour those who fought. Serving the usual quality array of Nicholsons food along with 7 handpulls, the pub is popular with the business community.

Fullers Old Joint Stock is a Victorian Grade 2 listed building with large central island bar surrounded by comfortable seating. Regular and seasonal Fullers, Gales & Dark Star beers, with occasional guests and quality food is served.

Tilt is a Craft beer micropub in the city centre. A changing beer list from 18 draught lines and 50+ bottled & canned beers from the fridge is available to drink in or take away. A large collection of pinball machines are a unique feature that attracts avid players.

Wetherspoon's Briar Rose was formerly the first branch of the Abbey National. It is a simple, nicely decorated pub that has a 40 room Wetherlodge above it. Serving the usual range of Wetherspoon's food and drink, it's later closing at weekends can prove popular.
